Description

In the world of pipes, Tom Eltang needs no introduction. I will, however, give one anyway, if just as a reminder. Eltang made his first pipe from a Pipe-Dan hobby kit at the age of 11. At age 16, he apprenticed under the legendary Anne Julie, before moving on to work for Pipe-Dan three years later. Three years after that, Eltang began working for Stanwell. Through these formative experiences with major Danish pipe-making institutions, Eltang cultivated the skills and creativity that would see him emerge as one of the figureheads of Danish artisan pipe-making scene. In terms of influence, it is perhaps only Sixten Ivarsson who has had a comparable impact on the world of hand made pipes.

In the early 2000s, Tom Eltang wanted a way to offer pipes that were as meticulously crafted as the ones he ordinarily makes, but at a price point more accessible to the average pipe smoker. To this end, he created Sara Eltang pipes, named after his daughter. While Tom Eltang pipes are made solely by Tom himself, Sara Eltang pipes are made collaboratively by Tom and his proteges, such as Mike Sebastian Bay, in the former’s Copenhagen workshop. Sara Eltang pipes are also made in a set number of shapes, with hand cut acrylic stems, rather than ebonite. As Tom and his proteges are usually very busy making their own-name pipes, Sara Eltang pipes are not produced regularly, but are instead made in batches every few years. This one is a classic Danish Dublin, dressed in a crisp, partial sandblast and bearing a jade-colored ferrule. As Tom Eltang and Sara Eltang pipes tend to be, it is very lightweight, making for an easy clencher.

This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It comes with its original sleeve.
