Savinelli Sport Edition Soccer Rusticated Apple Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked, 9mm

It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.

You might think that sports are a strange thing to mix with pipes, given the latter’s association with more contemplative scenes, but this mixture is neither unprecedented nor new. The early 20th century Dunhill 305 nosewarmer, later reincarnated as the second-digit “9” within its modern system, was originally marketed as “for sports,” something that Peterson would later adopt in its Outdoor and Sports lines. This Savinelli is slightly different, as it was made to celebrate the FIFA World Cup in 2018. Taking the form of an appropriately round apple shape, the pipe is dressed in Savinelli’s house rustication and features a silver adornment in the shape of a soccer ball (or, a football, for our European customers) on the top of its shank. Not only were these pipes limited edition, they were also made by hand.

This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating, having come to us from a large new old stock lot from a shop closure in Europe. The pipe is chambered to allow for the use of 9mm filters if one desires.
