Description

It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.

Leather covered pipes were a staple of 20th century pipe production, with one key advantage being their ability to insulate one’s hands from the heat of the bowl. Aside from the occasional artisan creation, such as Todd Johnson’s wild, leather covered pieces, they’ve become all but artifacts of a different time. Still, the old ways have their virtues, even the mostly forgotten ones. This looks to be a leather-wrapped rendition of Savinelli’s 614 full bent billiard, or Oom Paul, shape (or one of its predecessors), with an overcoat that certainly adds a layer of distinction.

The condition is fair. Some weathering to the leather and a little wear to the rim.
