Ser Jacopo Delecta Maxima R1 Rusticated Brandy Estate Briar Pipe, Italian Estates

Description
Ser Jacopo is likely the most famous contemporary example of high-grade, workshop-made Italian pipes. It also belongs to a very special tradition in Italian pipe-making, having been established by Giancarlo Guidi and Bruno Sordini after the two had left another great Italian workshop, Mastro de Paja. Together, Guidi and Sordini created a brand of pipes that reflected their Renaissance sensibilities – even the figurehead of Ser Jacopo happens to be taken from a painting of a nobleman from centuries past – one that would soon become esteemed for creating unique and beautiful tobacco pipes that smoked just as well as they looked.
There’s a somewhat Danish quality to this Ser Jacopo, more so than is typical. On the other hand, the Pesaro School, inaugurated by Mastro de Paja, was a response of sorts to the rise of the Danes and their highly sought-after pipes. If certain things were switched around a little, it could, for example, resemble something made by Former. Those things would, on the other hand, be the core aspects of Ser Jacopo’s design signatures and the workshop’s thoroughly Italian identity. “Delecta,” after all, in Ser Jacopo’s portfolio refers to a distinct type of mount used by the workshop, seen here briar faux-spigot joining shank and stem. The “R1” finish is, similarly, one of Ser Jacopo’s renditions of the Italian institution that is high-grade, pebble-dash rustication. So, there’s a little Danish to the shaping, but it is nonetheless a very “Ser Jacopo,” and very Italian pipe. On a last note, it is also a Maxima grade, designating pipes that are larger than the norm.
The condition is good. Some darkening and slight charring on the rim, and some general finish fading on the bowl and briar ferrule.
