Description

It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.

Savinelli’s Sherwood Rock Briar is a fairly old, discontinued line from the Italian make, and one of the very few Savinelli lines to have ever worn a spot-carved finish. Being an old line, it’s not uncommon to find one rendered in a shape that is, similarly, not in Savinelli’s current shape chart. Such is the case for this one, an extra large rendition of Savinelli’s “811” lumberman, which is currently only sold via the limited edition Luisa Fiammata line (which exclusively uses old stummels from discontinued shape) and a very small number of Punto Oro models (which follow the same principle as the Luisa). Even then, the “current” 811 is not quite like the original, saddle stem version seen here. A nice pipe for Savinelli collectors, I’d say.

The condition is very good. Some inner rim darkening.
