Savinelli Giubileo D’Oro 623 Smooth Bulldog Estate Briar Pipe, Italian Estates

Description
It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.
The Giubileo D’Oro, sometimes simplified as the Giubileo Oro, is the highest grade awarded to Savinelli’s non-freehand pipes. While the make’s famed Punto Oro pipes are of such a high standard that only around 1% of stummels turned annually qualify for a Punto Oro grade, fewer still have what it takes to be a Giubileo D’Oro. In fact, of the thousands and thousands of stummels turned at Savinelli’s Milan campus each year, only roughly 0.005% of them possess the exceptional, flawless briar and superior graining to be rewarded with the Giubileo’s signature three gold dots. This one is rendered in the quite uncommon “623” bulldog shape, and looks to be a slightly older Giubileo iteration, judging by its unfiltered, ebonite stem (rather than the 6mm or 9mm acrylic stems that are standard on Savinelli pipes today). True to its name, the pipe features excellent flame grain running the circumference of its bowl, and a long strip of bird’s-eye on its undeside.
The condition is good. Very slight inner rim charring and some finish fading.
