Savinelli Extra 310 KS Rusticated Poker Estate Briar Pipe, Italian Estates

It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.

The Extra was one of Savinelli’s first lines produced at its Milan factory, and one which was in production for several decades before finally being discontinued. The line was designed with two things in mind: they were intended to be lightweight, well-balanced, and suited for use when working or engaging in leisure; and they were intended to be more affordable than some of Savinelli’s more high-end pipes, like the Punto Oro. This one looks to be from around the 1970s, and is rendered in a shape that remains a staple in Savinelli’s catalog, the 310 poker sitter. The finish is a micro-rustication that Savinelli referred to as a “guilloche” finish, in reference to an old artistic technique of engraving a material in a manner evocative of interlaced fabric fibers.

The condition is fair. Some rim darkening, slight finish fading, and stem slightly over-buffed.
