Savinelli Estella XL Rusticated Freehand Vase Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked

Out of stock

Description

It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.

While long discontinued, Savinelli’s Estella line a cult favorite among collectors and smokers. We don’t get too many of them here, but when we do, they’re in and out of the door pretty quickly. Like Savinelli’s Autograph freehands, Estellas tend to be on the large side, though unlike the majority of Autographs, the Estella line is known for its intensely rugged rustication, as well its colorful Lucite stems. This particular Estella is highly distinctive, even compared to others. While it exhibits the line’s hallmark proportions, finishing, and color composition, the shaping is closer to something I’d expect from Ed Burak and his Connoisseur line. It’s almost like one of Burak’s saxophone or vase designs, reimagined through the lens of the Italian post-war avant-garde.

This Estella also happens to be completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating.
