Peterson Kapp-Royal Smooth Straight Bulldog Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked [SOLD OUT]

Description

Peterson pipes generally need no introduction, but just in case you’re unfamiliar: in 1876, a Latvian named Charles Peterson immigrated to Ireland and was hired making pipes in a workshop owned by Frederick and George Kapp. After rising through the ranks to become head craftsman, Peterson bought into the Kapp’s business, which was renamed, Kapp & Peterson (K&P). During this time, Peterson himself applied for several patents for pipe designs, including the world-famous Peterson’s System. Since then, Peterson has become one of the most recognizable names in pipe smoking and continues to produce high quality pipes from their headquarters in Dublin.

The Kapp-Royal has undergone a fair few changes since its debut many decades ago, with contemporary renditions, such as this one, being part of Peterson’s rare, high-grade output. As such, the series is not easy to get hold of, and when they do pop up, they are not cheap – though that doesn’t stop them selling out almost immediately. For the Kapp-Royal series, Peterson uses its best bowls, which are dressed in their Natural finish so as to make sure the superior grain patterns on these bowls are visible and appreciated. Added to the bowls are sterling silver military mounts, and amber-hued stems. I find this gives the contemporary Kapp-Royals something of an old-world aesthetic, which I enjoy very much.

Oddly enough, this Kapp-Royal is completely unsmoked. Whoever is lucky enough to snag it will have the privilege of taking it on its maiden voyage.
