Mesut Gezer XL Floral & Dolphin Carved Block Meerschaum Estate Pipe, Unsmoked

While most Turkish meerschaum carvers remain anonymous to their customers throughout their career (in the same way most pipe factory or workshop staff do in the briar trade), masters of the craft are given the honor of signing their works. Figures such as Baki, Bekler, and Kenan are examples of such masters, as is Mesut.

Here we find Mesut having composed one of the more unusual meerschaums I’ve come across. While it is decked in quintessentially Turkish floral carvings, the centerpiece of the design is that of a marine scene—specifically, a trio of dolphins swimming around its bowl. I have to wonder whether it was carved on request by a seafarer of sorts. Either way, it’s beautifully done.

This pipe is completely unsmoked and comes with its original case.
