Medici (Todd Johnson & Adam Davidson) Sandblasted Tomato Estate Briar Pipe, American Estates
Out of stock
Description
Before co-founding BriarWorks with Pete Prevost, the great American artisan Todd Johnson had another project oriented at offering high-quality, handmade pipes at an accessible price-point. This was the Medici, named for the Italian statesman and patron of the arts, Lorenzo de’ Medici. Initially, the manufacture of Medici pipes was undertaken by Johnson himself, though he would later take a supervisory role, with one of his protégés, Adam Davidson, continuing their manufacture. Johnson and Davidson would ultimately dissolve Medici, moving onto other things, though, every so often, one will emerge on the estates market, providing a rare glimpse into early years of this century’s artisan scene.
This one is a nice, ring grain sandblasted squat tomato, paired with a hand-cut black acrylic stem. It might also be considered an author, especially with its wide, slightly shallow chamber.
The condition is very good. Minor finish fading and a slightly off-center drilling of the draft hole inside the chamber.
