Description

At MBSD we sell a lot of high-grade, high-quality pipes from various iconic makes, but some of the pipes we’re most proud of are our meerschaums. Right from the beginning, we wanted to offer the best smoking meers on the market, and to do this, we had them made with two distinct features. First, we made sure that they were made with block meerschaum that was carefully selected to be the most lightweight, pure, and porous available, meaning it would also color more quickly and evenly as it is smoked. Second, for our Deluxe meerschaums, we had the pipes made with a patented Briar-Mortise system that is closer to the stem connection on a briar pipe than a standard meerschaum. This is because, on our Deluxe models, the mortise is made from briar itself, while the tenons used are made from Delrin. This allows for more precision construction of the pipe’s draft hole, as well as a general extra durability and longevity.

In addition to their functional improvements, one thing that we’ve always been interested in when it comes to our meerschaum pipes is expanding our design portfolio. In particular, we’re always looking to including new shapes that either aren’t commonly associated with the medium, or which have been transformed in the last half century via the briar artisan scene.

For this one, the idea was to have something of a “mini magnum,” or “pocket magnum”—i.e., an oversized pipe, with a bulbous bowl and a correspondingly voluminous chamber, but which was also not completely unwieldy. As with a few of our pipes, inspiration for the shaping drew on many of the great, Danish post-war artisans, such as the apple renditions of Ph. Vigen, Jens Tao Nielsen, and S. Bang, as well as the more English-inspired American carvers, like J.T. Cooke, or John Eells.

This pipe comes with a custom-fitted clam-shell hard case.
