Description

The idea of having house-brand briar pipes is something all of us at MBSD Pipes had in the backs of our minds for a long time. After all, we have our own brand of meerschaums, so why not briars, too? We knew the project could take many forms and, ultimately, we settled on starting out with a line of pipes whose designs were strongly influenced by contemporary artisan briars, while also being eminently affordable.

To accomplish this, we teamed up with Italian artisan Piero Vitale, along with Paolo and Gianni Croci’s Talamona factory. Vitale’s connections allowed him to source seasoned, pre-turned briar stummels from northern Italy’s historic pipe making campuses. From this foundation, he created three shapes: a Danish billiard, an Italian author, and a traditional, Anglo-French bent brandy. Each shape would be fitted with an exotic wood ferrule and black Lucite stem, and offered in either a smooth, sandblasted, or rusticated finish. With Vitale’s oversight through every step of their production, the first iteration of MBSD Briars was born.
