Jolly Roger Tortuga by Roger Wallenstein Sandblasted Estate Briar Pipe, German Estates 9mm
Out of stock
Description
The “Jolly Roger” is a series of pipes designed by acclaimed German artisan Roger Wallenstein for Kopp, the German pipe distributor who also own the contemporary Rattray’s and Barling brands. As one might expect, the name is a pun, though there are more layers to it than a mere play on Wallenstein’s given name. Wallenstein’s own pipes often incorporate motifs regarding the sea, with his shapes sometimes resembling crustaceans and other water-dwelling critters, and his finishes sometimes created to imitate the texture of driftwood. The Tortuga is one of the Jolly Roger series, and incorporates an interesting design feature: a magnetic fitment between the stem and shank, as opposed to a simple push fit. This takes an already unorthodox, asymmetrical, but still oddly maritime, design and makes it even more unique.
The condition is fair. Some finish fading, chamber slightly over-reamed, and rim darkening. The pipe is chambered to allow for the use of 9mm filters if desired.
