HS Studio Sandblasted Prince w/ Silver Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked

If you’ve been keeping up with the world of Chinese pipe making, their artisan scene has been really taking off over the last decade. Like the great Danish institutions of old, many of these pipes are produced in artisan workshops such as Zhiputang, Qi Studio, and GH Zhang. Hong Kong’s HS Studio follows a similar model, with a team of expert in-house carvers crafting high-quality briars in a variety of styles.

Though HS Studio largely creates “Danish” style pipes of all stripes, I have noticed that the workshop is by no means averse to more “traditional” designs. Then again, shapes like the humble prince are hardly absent from today’s artisan, scene, with contemporary champions of the form including Chris Asteriou, Nate King, and Scottie Piersel. This HS Studio rendition checks all the right boxes, being lightweight and svelte, and featuring a crisp ring grain sandblast and silver army mount.

This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating.
