Eclesias “Dragon Scale” Sandblasted Egg Handmade Briar Pipe, New

Description

There are some artisans who are well known and widely acclaimed for their sandblasting techniques. Bill Taylor of Ashton, J.T. Cooke, Lee Von Erck, and so on. The reason these figures are so well known for their sandblasts is not just because they mastered pre-existing techniques, but went so far as to create their own. Pavel Holub’s Eclesias pipes display a similar ingenuity, with his “Dragon Scale” sandblasting producing results that are as tactile and densely layered as their namesake.

In this instance, Holub has given his treatment to a staple of artisan pipe making, the Danish egg. Given that egg shapes have appeared in Scandinavian-style pipe making for just about as long as Scandinavian-style pipe making has existed (appearing in the portfolios of Sixten Ivarsson, Former, Anne Julie, Jess Chonowitsch, Kurt Balleby and many, many others around the world), one would think it to be quite difficult to craft one that was novel in this day and age. This Eclesias Pipes rendition manages to do exactly that, utilizing Holub’s signature sandblast, along with an imitation-amber Lucite stem, to a refreshingly distinctive effect.
