Chacom Hexagone 859 Smooth Panel Pear Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked [SOLD OUT]

Chacom is one of France’s most historic and iconic makes. Its founders, the Comoy family, began their career as boxwood pipe-makers in the early 1800s, before briar had even been discovered, with Henri Comoy (of Comoy’s fame) emigrating to England in 1879 and founding the country’s first briar pipe factory. In 1922, Henri and his nephews, the Chapuis, founded the Chapuis Comoy pipe factory in Saint-Claude, France, which shortly after began producing pipes bearing the partnered families’ names – ‘Cha’ for Chapuis, and ‘Com’ for Comoy. Chacom has been the biggest name in French pipes ever since.

Here’s an interesting shape. It’s from Chacom’s long-discontinued Hexagone line, which was comprised of pipes with six-sided shanks. Curiously, Chacom opted to combine such a shank with a very classically French pear bowl shape. I’m assuming these were high-grade pipes in Chacom’s old catalog, as the briar has been particularly good on all of the Hexagones I’ve seen. This one has its bowl sides covered in bird’s-eye patterns, connected by fiery cross-grain on the bowl’s aft and fore. It also has a hand-cut stem, which was, and is, par for the course on Chacom’s high-grades.

This Hexagone is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating to help ease in its first smokes. It also comes with its original box and sleeve. As with many Chacom pipes, it includes a stinger, but this stinger is easily unscrewed and removed for those who prefer to use their pipes without one.
