Astleys Les Wood Smooth Zulu Handmade Briar Pipe, Cumberland [SOLD OUT]

Out of stock

Description

Astleys was one of London’s most historic pipe and tobacco shops. Like many pipe tobacconists, its owners had pipes made specially to be sold under the shop’s name. Astleys pipes, however, were made by some of the premier pipe manufacturers and artisans in the UK, such as Dunhill, Charatan, Les Wood, and Ken Barnes and Barry Jones of James Upshall. As a result, Astleys pipes are prized for their quality, and as examples of the very finest British pipes.

While most Astleys are quite difficult to tie to a specific maker, we were able to reach out directly and discover who made this one. It was made by none other than Les Wood. It’s a beautiful Zulu design, with a hand cut cumberland stem and Wood’s signature silverwork, stamped with the L&JS maker’s mark. While the pipe is certainly a looker, it’s also incredibly lightweight, weighing a mere 32 grams. This should ensure that it’s a comfortable clencher, turning heads all the while.

The condition is near mint. I don’t see any issues that need highlighting. It also comes with its original box.
