Estate Pipes

What is an estate pipe? Estate pipes are, for the most part, tobacco pipes that have been previously owned. Like cars, clothing, or books, tobacco pipes are durable enough that they often outlive the needs of their owner and can be used again by a new owner.

Many estate pipes have been smoked by their previous owner, or owners, in which case these pipes are professionally refurbished and sanitized so that they are ready to be smoked by their new owner. Some estate pipes have never been smoked, despite how many owners they might have had, in which case they’re given a lighter clean-up before they’re ready to go. Some estate pipes have never been personally owned, as they come from the inventory of shops that have gone out of business or are downsizing. These are commonly known as “New Old Stock” pipes.

Estate pipes have a long history among pipe smokers and collectors. Often, they’re a way to purchase a given pipe while paying substantially less than it would cost new. They can also be a way to acquire rare and collectible pipes, including ones that haven’t been made in a long time, or that were limited edition at the time of release.
