Astleys of London, Les Wood Made Lovat Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked [SOLD OUT]

Out of stock

Description

Astleys was one of London’s most historic pipe and tobacco shops. Like many pipe tobacconists, its owners had pipes made specially to be sold under the shop’s name. Astleys pipes, however, were made by some of the premier pipe manufacturers and artisans in the UK, such as Dunhill, Charatan, Les Wood, and Ken Barnes and Barry Jones of James Upshall. As a result, Astleys pipes are prized for their quality, and as examples of the very finest British pipes.

While it can sometimes be quite difficult to know who made a specific Astleys pipe, we have confirmed through our access to Astleys company records, and through Mr Wood himself, that this particular specimen was made by Les Wood of Ferndown fame. Those familiar with Wood’s work will likely recognize it immediately as one of his, as it is a beautifully crafted, classic English billiard, with a hand cut cumberland stem and a sterling silver band with the L&JS maker’s mark. This beautiful Lovat also comes with it’s original box!

The pipe is completely unsmoked – a rarity when it comes to Astleys pipes, as the company closed long ago – and comes with its original box from the famous Jermyn Street tobacconist.
