Mina Pipes Sandblasted Wide Shank Bulldog w/ Boxwood Estate Briar Pipe Unsmoked
Out of stock
Description
This particular pipe came to us with a batch of new old stock (NOS) pipes from a store closure a few states over. Though it isn’t stamped, its similarity with other Mina Pipes in that batch has me pretty much dead certain that it’s another from the Mina make.
Based on what I was able to research, the Mina company runs a pipe workshop in China, not unlike HS Studio or GH Zhang, which produces a number of different makes based on the style of pipe. This one looks to have been inspired by some of the distinctive, faceted bulldog shapes to have come out of the post-war century Danish artisan scene, evoking the pipes of, for example, Poul Ilsted and his protege Manduela Riger-Kusk. Like Manduela’s renditions, this one employs a slightly more unconventional color scheme, combining a slight contrast, burgundy sandblast, a blonde boxwood accent, and a marbled Lucite stem.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. As indicated, the pipe is not stamped, though that certainly won’t interfere with its performance.
