Description
It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.
This looks to be a Savinelli Autograph, though if it is, it’s an early one. The key indicators here would be the style of the pipe, the fact it has what appears to be a grade letter, and what also looks to be the remains of an effaced Savinelli signature logo on the stem, all of which are found on Savinelli’s Autograph pipes. On the other hand, it doesn’t say “Autograph” on the pipe itself, which modern Savinellis typically feature.
For those who don’t know, Savinelli has had its own, dedicated freehand workshop since the 1970s, operating under the “Autograph” series. Looking at the Savinelli nomenclature on this pipe, it’s certainly several decades old, so it may well be possible. As I can’t be certain, however, I’ll run with it being a miscellaneous Savinelli freehand and price it accordingly.
The condition is good. Some handling marks.
