Description
Paul Becker is one of Germany’s most accomplished artisans, which is impressive given the competition he’s been up against over the decades. I’ve followed his career for many years—so many, in fact, that I remember when he used to stamp his pipes “Paul Becker,” instead of the “PaulPipes” moniker used today. You see, probably the only hurdle that Paul had to face during his career was confusions between him and the late, great Paulo Becker.
But Paul Becker is, as just mentioned, an acclaimed artisan in his own right. And, as can be seen from this pipe, Paul’s and Paolo’s work is very different in style. The design is what might be considered a “Jekyll and Hyde blowfish,” incorporating both the use of flattened planes found in the latter and a mixed finish of smooth and sandblasted surfaces on either flank. The pipe also features a cumberland ferrule leading up to its flared, more “Danish” style stem.
The pipe is chambered for 9mm filters as standard, such as Vauen’s charcoal or Savinelli’s balsa varieties, or would fit an adapter if non-filtered use is preferred.
