Description

It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.

There have been several Savinelli pipes that bore the “Columbus” name, though none looked quite like this. Those were more standard lines, featuring standard Savinelli shapes, but this one is not to be found on any Savinelli shape chart. In fact, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a hawkbill-style shape from Savinelli ever before, with the closest match being their Captain Warren (which is, of course, still entirely different). This straight grain beauty looks handmade, too. Perhaps it was made by the Autograph workshop?

The condition is very good. Some darkening and finish fading on the rim, and a couple of scratches on the top of the side of the bowl.
Like most contemporary Savinelli pipes, this one has a tenon that will fit 6mm filters, such as Savinelli’s own balsa filters, but the pipe will perform just as well without a filter if preferred.
