Description
Having been making pipes since 1974, Alberto Bonfiglioli is one of Italy’s most seasoned artisans. Based in Bologna, where he runs his own pipe store and local pipe club, Bonfiglioli today makes around 100 pipes per year, using only choice briar aged for at least a decade.
To call Alberto Bonfiglioli a “cult favorite” would be an understatement, and with pipes like this one, it’s not difficult to see why. Taking the form of a particularly stout, extra large Canadian sitter, the pipe still manages to be perfectly balanced and proportioned, with its thick bowl walls affording extra heat insulation. The pipe is dressed in a quintessentially Italian rustication, applied distinctively enough to avoid being derivative, with its near-black finish and Lucite stem offset by a collar turned from sterling silver. Bonfiglioli pipes tend to feature many stamps indicating various aspects of the pipe, though in this instance the main one to observe is its date code, which for 1991 was “T1.”
The condition is great. Some minor inner rim darkening and a couple of slight, superficial scratches on the rim.
