Description

Over the last decade, Sean Reum has emerged as one of North America’s most admired and in-demand pipe-makers, with his fans including, among many others, the one and only G.L. Pease. Having followed Reum’s career for many years, including catching a few glimpses of the artisan in his Montana workshop, I’m happy to say that his status in the pipe world is well-earned. A master carver of hand made pipes in the Scandinavian tradition, Reum has managed to secure a niche in the highly competitive artisan market through a combination of innovative designs and production techniques, a consistent, high quality output, and an almost unparalleled work ethic.

One of the things I really like about Reum’s pipes is how he’s constantly experimenting with the forms and shapes they take. Each pipe is something new, even if the difference is on the subtle side. The only downside is that this makes it quite difficult to describe them! Let’s call this an acorn, though it could also be a strawberry: a quarter-bent sandblasted acorn with a delightful little ‘foot’ at the base of the pipe. The light, tan stain works well with the cumberland stem, too. Lastly, there’s a kiss of plateau briar on the left of the rim – just a small addition that adds to the character of the pipe.

As with most of Reum’s pipes, this one is light enough to clench, though the acorn shape is particularly comfortable in the hand too.
