Savinelli Capri Bruna 121 Bent Pot Estate Briar Pipe, Italian Estates

Description

It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.

I really like Savinelli’s Capri lines. It’s a shame they aren’t made anymore. Along with Castello’s Sea Rock, Radice’s Rind, and the pipes of Paolo Becker, Savinelli’s Capri represent a quintessentially Italian approach to rustication – one that’s fine and granular, and eminently tactile. On this pipe, the Capri finish has been applied to a shape that looks strikingly similar to some of the older, army mount-style Castello Sea Rock pipes – a more restrained shape 55, for example.

The condition is very good. There’s a little rim darkening, and the rustication has become a little worn and less sharp over time, but these are cosmetic imperfections, especially on a pipe with an aesthetic like this one.
