Royal Danish by Stanwell 912, Straight Billiard Briar Pipe, Unsmoked [SOLD OUT]

Description

Royal Danish was a sub-brand of Denmark’s Stanwell company. Using the same shapes as the main Stanwell line, Royal Danish is now a great way for customers to get their hands on iconic Danish pipes that are no longer manufactured by Stanwell or by any of its sub-brands. What’s more, Stanwell sub-brands were of a much higher quality than the average second-line pipe, meaning they’re excellent value for money.

Though it is a Royal Danish as opposed to a main-line Stanwell, this pipe is still rather special. It is modeled after Stanwell’s early shape 12, with the 9 beginning the shape code indicating the sub-line it would be sold through. There are two things that really set this pipe apart, however. One is that it is completely unsmoked, a property that is very rare indeed for Stanwell-made pipes of any variety these days. The other is that this pipe has Stanwell’s seldom-used fantail stem design, which somewhat resembles the ones pioneered by English make Sasieni. Because of this, I would presume this pipe to be from the 1960s, or early 1970s at the latest, as Stanwell has not used fantail stems in many decades.

It’s a fairly large pipe, at over 6 inches in length, but it isn’t heavy and may be suitable for clenching, being only 42 grams. A real treasure for Danish collectors, or smokers of well made pipes ever so slightly outside of the norm.
