Description
For me, there are two things that define a Peder Jeppesen pipe, whether those made under his Neerup moniker, or the higher grade pieces made under his given name, P. Jeppesen: one is an organic composition, with typical shapes being apples, eggs, acorns, and strawberries; the other is the use of decorative elements, such as brighter color schemes, rings, and other adornments.
This stout, Danish apple, belonging to the latter, P. Jeppesen, series, follows that design philosophy wholeheartedly. But there is a slight difference with this one. You see, the “Ida” line of P. Jeppesen pipes is named after Peder Jeppesen’s daughter. Peder is also the father of Christian Noah Jeppesen, but in this instance, “Noah” refers to the fact that the pipe was primarily made by Christian Jeppesen. Denmark is full of pipe dynasties, from the Ivarsson family to the Balleby family, and the Jeppesen family is no different. Noah works with his father on Peder Jeppesen pipes, and was even invited by Stanwell to design their Pipe of the Year for 2021 (a rare honor among Scandinavian pipe makers). So, this is a P. Jeppesen pipe, but it was one for which Christian Noah Jeppesen was in charge for. It’s clear from looking at it that Christian inherited both his father’s pipe making skills, and indeed his distinctive aesthetic sensibilities.
The condition is great. Very minor wear to the rim, but used a few times at most. The pipe comes with its original sleeve.
