Neerup XL Sandblasted Volcano w/ Zebrawood Estate Briar Pipe, Danish Estates

Description
Neerup pipes were created by Peder Jeppesen, who began his career in the workshops of the legendary Danish pipe-makers Karl Erik Ottendahl and Erik Nording. Peder’s style has changed over the years, with his more recent work displaying a playfulness in design that is not often seen, even within the avant-garde stylings of the Danish tradition.
This would look to be a slightly older piece from Peder Jeppesen’s Neerup make, though one that still shows off his distinctive aesthetic philosophy. Somewhere between a modern volcano and a cherrywood, the pipe features a beautifully sandblasted bowl, whose ring grain is so prominently expressed that it punches through even the near-black finish applied to it. One might say it has a curiously “English” texture, in fact, evoking early Dunhill and Barling’s Make pipes. The shaping is more Danish, though, and the pairing of the bowl’s dark finish with a ring of Ivorite, a ferrule cut from zebrawood, and an amber-toned acrylic stem is far more “Jeppesen.”
The condition is very good. Some inner rim darkening and minor finish fading.
