Description

The MBSD Meerschaum Silver is our series of silver mounted meerschaum pipes. Using the same high-grade, fast-coloring Turkish meerschaum found on our Deluxe series, these pipes exclusively feature silver army mounts or spigot mounts.

As with many of our meerschaum designs, there’s a story behind this one, as well as a very specific influence. Those who are familiar with the history of Danish pipe making will likely know of a workshop named Pibe-Dan (or Pibe Dan, and then, later, Pipe Dan). Pibe-Dan was a hotbed of innovation in Danish pipe design and had numerous, legendary carvers on its staff during its lifetime, such as Sven Knudsen, Ph Vigen, Gert Holbek, Ib Loran, and Tom Eltang. Pibe-Dan’s most famous designs were, arguably, its “stack,” or “chimney” models, which were largely grouped under the “Dan Shape Reformed” series. In fact, the workshop’s logo was a Dan Shape Reformed stack. Pibe-Dan had over a dozen variants of these shapes, and I’d always wondered if there was a possibility of making one in meerschaum. After some back and forth with my carver on the feasibility of doing so, we agreed that the best place to start with a meerschaum homage to the Dan Shape series was in its slightly thicker “Conic Chimney.” We also agreed that a little Turkish lattice carving would make our version a little more unique. It was also decided that a reverse calabash chamber within the shank would be an excellent way to mitigate moisture and heat build-up, especially during the longer smokes this one will provide.
