Description

Kaywoodie pipes are as American as apple pie. Starting in 1919 as a pipe brand for KB&B, a pipe shop dating all the way back to 1851, Kaywoodie has since then been a staple of American-made pipes. In the present, many Kaywoodies are collectors’ items, in addition to being fantastic smokers.

Kaywoodie introduced its “Tuckaway” line of pipes around the mid-20th century and, as the name implies, these were smaller renditions of classic Kaywoodie shapes intended for easy carry. In other words, they were pipes that one could tuck away in one’s pocket when out and about. At the time of this one’s making, they also featured Kaywoodie’s famous, four-hole stinger, the Drinkless, and Synchro-Stem threaded fitment. This nosewarmer-length, featherweight iteration, dressed in the rugged, American-style rustication that was so popular at the time, looks to be what Kaywoodie called a “squat bulldog,” based on the 1955 catalog. I’d imagine most today would call it an apple, or a tomato. But, as the saying goes, a rose by any other name…

The condition is very good. Some minor rim darkening and slight finish fading.
