HS Studio Sandblasted Tomato w/ Bamboo & Boxwood Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked
Out of stock
Description
If you’ve been keeping up with the world of Chinese pipe making, their artisan scene has been really taking off over the last decade. Like the great Danish institutions of old, many of these pipes are produced in artisan workshops such as Zhiputang, Qi Studio, and GH Zhang. Hong Kong’s HS Studio follows a similar model, with a team of expert in-house carvers crafting high-quality briars in a variety of styles.
Blending the subdued, squat, plumpness of the traditional tomato with the sweeping curvature of an Oom Paul shape, this particular HS Studio is in some senses reminiscent of the works of Roman Kovalev, of Doctor’s Pipes. As with Kovalev, this HS Studio uses a shank extension cut from bamboo to aid in its drilling of such a difficult composition, though its overall design is much more svelte and low-slung. There is also something of the “dress” pipe to it, owing to its combination of a crisp black sandblast and similarly black ebonite stem, between which the lighter hues of bamboo and boxwood are sandwiched.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It comes with its original sleeve.
