Description

To veteran pipe smokers, Dunhill needs no introduction. Beginning in 1907, Alfred Dunhill began selling Dunhill pipes at the tobacconist shop he owned on London’s Duke Street. Very quickly, these pipes gained the reputation of being the ‘Rolls-Royce’ of pipes due to how expertly crafted they were. Today, Dunhill is likely Britain’s most famous pipe manufacturer, and continues to produce some of the most treasured pipes a smoker can buy.

As with another Dunhill recently listed, this is their iconic shape 48 bulldog, and like the other Dunhill, it has been smoked quite a bit—though some might say that lends it a certain charm. The stamping has been buffed quite heavily over the years, but from what I can make out, it is a patent era pipe, so it will have been made prior to 1955.

As indicated, the condition is a little rough, though not to the point where it is unusable. Rim darkening, general finish wear, chamber over-reamed, and a possible shank repair. I’ve priced it to reflect this, so it should be very affordable for those looking for an especially rugged Dunhill from the early decades.
