Bjarne Handmade Partially Sandblasted Danish Dublin Briar Pipe, Danish Estates [SOLD OUT]

Description

Bjarne Nielsen was one of the towering figures of Danish pipe-making until his passing in 2008. As the founder of Bjarne, Nielsen employed talented pipe-makers from Denmark to produce distinctly Danish pipes and sold them to a devoted international audience. Among those in his employ were figures such as Mogens Johansen (also known as Johs), Ph. Vigen, Ole Bandholm and Tonni Nielsen. Though Bjarne pipes are no longer manufactured, they are still in good demand by those who enjoy well-made pipes in the tradition of Danish design.

This Bjarne shows all the hallmarks of the Danish style – more specifically, the Danish approach to the classic ‘Dublin’ shape. With a bowl so wide it almost resembles a calabash, as well as a distinctly curvy figure, the Danish Dublin has come to embody a shape of its own. This Bjarne is a masterful interpretation of such a shape, complemented by stunning bird’s eye grain all over its rim and flame grain swirling around the sides of the bowl. This smooth grain is interrupted by a small patch of sandblasted briar – another common technique in Danish pipe finishes – that should make the pipe even easier to keep in one’s grip.
