HS Studio Sandblasted Poker Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked

If you’ve been keeping up with the world of Chinese pipe making, their artisan scene has been really taking off over the last decade. Like the great Danish institutions of old, many of these pipes are produced in artisan workshops such as Zhiputang, Qi Studio, and GH Zhang. Hong Kong’s HS Studio follows a similar model, with a team of expert in-house carvers crafting high-quality briars in a variety of styles.

While most of the new old stock HS Studio pipes we’ve had in have been very modern, very “Danish” designs, this one is a rare example of the workshop keeping things eminently classic. It is, after all, a poker. Furthermore, it is everything a poker should be—no more, no less. It is compact and lightweight, it sits, it has a comfortable, hand-cut ebonite stem, and features a healthy chamber capacity. In other words, it’ll clench and set according to your preference. The finish is a modest, though nicely crisp, brown sandblast, with a very slight contrast. What else could you need?

This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. The end of the shank is a little roughly shaped, though no significant issues to report.
