Description
Ural was a meerschaum company in the 20th century, established by Turkey’s Deniz Ural. Ural had a number of master meerschaum carvers in its employ, including the legendary Fikri Baki. In this instance, this pipe was carved by another legendary figure in the world of meerschaum, Ismail Baglan.
Another impressively large meerschaum pipe from the Ural company. I may be wrong, but the figure depicted in this bust appears to be reminiscent of East Asian folk demons, such as those of Mongolia or China. Whatever the subject might have been, it’s a skillfully carved piece, though I’d expect nothing less from Ismail Baglan.
The condition is very good. Some minor rim darkening and perhaps a slight over-reaming of the top of the chamber.
