Stanwell 82R Reg Era Sandblasted Billiard Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]

Out of stock

Description

Stanwell is one of Denmark’s most celebrated and enduring pipe companies, having been founded by Poul Nielsen shortly after the second world war. Over the last six decades, Stanwell has established itself as both a leader in innovative Danish design and for producing well-priced pipes with precision construction and engineering. Many of its designs were created for the company by iconic pipe-makers in the Scandinavian scene, such as Sixten Ivarsson, Anne Julie, Jess Chonowitsch, and Tom Eltang.

Stanwell’s ‘R’ shapes were introduced in the late 1950s as part of a small ‘Giants’ series. Though the pipes were a far cry from the ‘magnum’ pipes that some enjoy in the contemporary, these Giants were, compared to Stanwell’s other pipes at the time, very large indeed. This one is a large billiard, dressed in a rugged, dark sandblast and completed by an ebonite stem. Judging by the nomenclature, I would date this particular 82R to the late 1950s or early 1960s. It is, furthermore, one of the higher-grade, Hand Made Stanwell pipes of the time.

The condition is excellent. There is a little bit of wear to the rim, but it is very uncommon to find Stanwells from this one’s era in such good shape.
