Savinelli Unica U61 Rusticated Bent Billiard Briar Pipe, 6mm, New

It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.

In 2024, Savinelli launched the inaugural run of its Unica series. What made the Unica series so unique was because, aside from the annual Collection Series, it marked the first time in a long time that Savinelli had produced completely new shapes, along with a novel finish to complement them. In fact, Savinelli had the cobalt-blue Lucite used for the stems custom-made.
These pipes were a limited release with limited quantities available for each shape. It would turn out that these Unica series pipes were wildly popular, with our own stock of them being depleted almost instantly. Now, in 2025, it seems as though some of the Unica series pipes have returned, albeit again in limited numbers.
This “U61” is the Unica’s interpretation of the bent billiard, which deviates sharply from Savinelli’s standard 602 and 606 shapes. It’s a little bit reminiscent of the very early bent billiards of England and France, such as the mythical Dunhill LC shape, though with a good deal more stoutness to it. Much like those pipes, this one has a very tall, stack bowl, which I’ve found makes for a perfect flake pipe. Then again, as a Savinelli, it’ll handle just about anything marvelously, and with a chamber that deep, it’ll do so for a good while for each bowl.

Savinelli’s Unica pipes are chambered for 6mm filters as standard, such as Savineli’s own balsa filters, but will smoke just as well without one, if the owner prefers.
