Sasieni Englandaire Smooth St Andrews Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked [SOLD OUT]

Out of stock

Description

Along with names like Barling, Charatan, and Dunhill Sasieni holds a special place in the history of English smoking pipes – one near to its very beginnings. So the story goes, Sasieni himself worked for Dunhill during its early days. But eventually he left Dunhill, having his own ideas about how pipes should be made, and founded Sasieni. This was 1919, and Sasieni has been the closest thing to a household name in English pipes ever since.

This particular Sasieni is one of the make’s most classic shapes – so classic that one doesn’t see it at all these days. It is the shape 108, otherwise known as the St. Andrews; a Dublin of shorts, but with a triangular shank whose underside features a line running straight and under the bowl, where it finishes with a sharp point at the bowl’s heel. Other interesting features on this shape are a slightly convex rim and a saddle stem whose length is somewhere between that of a billiard and a Lovat. It’s subtly different to the standard English-French fare, while remaining eminently traditional.

This pipe is completely unsmoked, which is extremely rare for Sasieni pipes, in my experience.
