The MBSD Meerschaum Silver is our line of silver mounted meerschaum pipes. Using the same high-grade, fast-coloring Turkish meerschaum found on our Deluxe series, these pipes exclusively feature silver army mounts or spigot mounts.

As I’ve said before, while Turkish meerschaum is the gold standard for lightweight, porous, clean-smoking sepiolite, I’ll always have a soft spot for the African meers of the 19th and 20th century—back before it stopped being mined altogether. Part of this stems from aesthetics: African meerschaum is darker and less pure than its Turkish counterpart, so carvers would find ways to finish the pipe in a variety of more visually appealing ways. From the pebble-dash and “Aboriginal” rustication found on Peterson meerschaums to the “fumed” finishes on Barling and BBB pieces, there’s no denying that those pipes looked classy. This Silver line brandy from our brand, MBSD Meerschaum, attempts to capture something of that increasingly distant past, with a scooped, sandy finish and sterling army mount. Unlike the old African meers, however, this one also has a reverse calabash system, to help keep things even cooler and drier.
