Kaywoodie Handmade Rusticated Bent Pot, Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]
Out of stock
Description
Kaywoodie pipes are as American as apple pie. Starting in 1919 as a pipe brand for KB&B, a pipe shop dating all the way back to 1851, Kaywoodie has since then been a staple of American-made pipes. In the present, many Kaywoodies are collectors items, in addition to being fantastic smokers.
If my dating is correct, this particular Kaywoodie is from their Oversized line, produced in 1947. These pipes were some of the most expensive pipes Kaywoodie offered at the time, with a retail price equivalent to around 200-300$ today. Simply stamped ‘Hand Made’, as this one is, these pipes were large and hand-carved. Another tell that this is a 1947 Kaywoodie is the rustication applied to its bowl, which is very much reminiscent of the Custom-Bilt/Custombilt pipes that were very popular in the first half of the 20th century (which have themselves become cult classics today).
The pipe is in great shape for being over 75 years old, and the meerschaum has held up very well, meaning the previous owner took great care when smoking it. Unlike many Kaywoodies, this pipe does not have a screw in stem or a stinger, and instead has a simple push stem made from vulcanite, for those that prefer them.
