Butz Choquin Grand Luxe Major Extra Oom Paul Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]

Description

With its origins in an 1858 collaboration between Jean-Baptiste Choquin and Gustave Butz, Butz-Choquin ultimately become one of the premier smoking pipe companies in 20^th century France. The brand is known both for its stylish variations on traditional English-French shapes and for its exploration of atypical and elaborate finishes. The brand is also known for its collaborations with celebrated French pipe-makers, such as Paul Lanier and Alain Albuisson, who made some of Butz-Choquin’s highest-grade pipes for the company.

This Butz Choquin is a classic Oom Paul, or Hungarian, shape. There’s a nice mix of grain patterns in the briar, which are brought out well by its golden-brown stain. Surprisingly, this Oom Paul is very lightweight – probably a sign of good, French briar – which should make it an easy clencher,

The condition is good. There is some rim darkening and a few handling marks, but these are superficial imperfections which will not affect the smoking properties of the pipe.
