1949 Dunhill Shell 104, Patent Era Sandblasted Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]

Out of stock

Description

To veteran pipe smokers, Dunhill needs no introduction. Beginning in 1907, Alfred Dunhill began selling Dunhill pipes at the tobacconist shop he owned on London’s Duke Street. Very quickly, these pipes gained the reputation of being the ‘Rolls-Royce’ of pipes due to how expertly crafted they were. Today, Dunhill is likely Britain’s most famous pipe manufacturer, and continues to produce some of the most treasured pipes a smoker can buy.

I love these patent-era Dunhill Shell pipes, for the same reason that many of their admirers do – the sandblasting. Just look at the blast on this one! So deep and craggy! These days you’d have to pay extra for a Ring Grain grade Shell to get something so tactile.

The design is actually quite interesting for a patent era Dunhill, in that it has a general billiard shape and proportions, but with an oval shank. I guess they were ahead of the curve on that one. Classic, with a slight twist.

The condition is excellent. I see no significant issues to note, but please consult the photos to make up your own mind. I don’t tend to miss such things, but to err is human, after all.
