GBD Sablee Standard 135, Sandblasted Billiard Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]

Out of stock

Description

GBD was one of several prominent examples of a French pipe brand that, due to certain circumstances, became a maker associated with classic ‘British’ pipes. Founded in 1850 by the French trio Ganneval, Bondier & Donninger, the brand was bought and moved to London at the beginning of the 20th century, were it continued to produce high-quality and highly desirable pipes.

This GBD was made in France, which I suppose is the company returning to its ancestral roots (no pun intended). For those that don’t know, ‘sablée’ is the French term for ‘sandblasted,’ as it more or less directly translates to ‘sandy.’ Anyway, French lesson over, this is a nice, simple sandblasted billiard. It’s very classic, very traditional, and has plenty of the subtle elegance of the English-French style of pipe-making.

While the pipe does appear darkened in areas, this seems to be part of the slightly contrasted stain. The pipe doesn’t appear to have been smoked much at all (if at all), with the chamber still showing its bare briar wood.
