Joe Hinkle Sandblasted Bent Apple Estate Briar Pipe [SOLD OUT]

Out of stock

Description

A resident of Indiana in the United States, Joe Hinkle started his pipe-making journey by teaching himself using hobby kits bought from Tim West. After a chance meeting with renowned artisan Nate King, who recognized Hinkle’s talent, Hinkle was invited to spend time with King at his workshop and receive expert guidance to further his craft. Hinkle later joined Briarlab, a workshop overseen by Nate King and another North American master, Michael Lindner, where Hinkle continued to develop his pipe-making skills. Today, Hinkle is, in his own right, a major figure in the contemporary North American high-grade scene.

This particular Hinkle is a very classic Danish-style bent apple. It’s a rather plump design, perhaps comparable to the traditional author shape, but its smooth curves and squat proportions render it unmistakably Danish in inspiration – to figures such as Jess Chonowitsch or Per and Ulf from S. Bang. Crisply sandblasted with some nice, natural ring grain, the subtle black stain is matched with a flared stem made from German ebonite and a decorative ring made from genuine, antique Bakelite.

While there does appear to be a minor scrape on the inner left lip of the rim, the pipe is otherwise in excellent condition. The stem is free from abrasions or indentations, the finish is untarnished, and the remainder of the rim is without issue.
