Description

It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously produced high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.

‘Chiara’ is Italian for ‘clear,’ in the sense of something being vivid and light, but it’s also an Italian word that closely matches the English ‘blonde.’ Hence, if you go looking for pipes on Italian-language websites, you’ll find a lot of them described as ‘chiara’ or ‘liscia chiara,’ indicating that the pipe has a smooth, light finish. Savinelli’s Chiara line, which is no longer in production, cut straight to the chase by having a name that described the line exactly. It’s a beautifully simple design, with a light, blonde stain (typically reserved in Italian pipe-making for higher-end, well-grained pipes, just as in England), a jet-black lucite stem, and a subtle ring of brass set in between them. The shape is a traditional Canadian – to sum up, it’s a very classical, and classy, pipe.

The condition is very good. The finish on the rim is a little worn, but other than that, the pipe is near-mint. The pipe is chambered for 6mm filters, such as Savinelli’s balsa filters, but will smoke just as well without one.
