Description

MBSD Meerschaum Masters is our line for special, typically figural, meerschaum pipes carved by some of today’s greatest living meerschaum carvers. For this pipe, we enlisted the services of Turkish master Kenan.

There are many objects which have served as inspiration for meerschaum carving, and which have subsequently become common motifs since the inception of the meerschaum pipe. Objects related to hunting, whether they be predators or prey, have a long history within meerschaum pipes, as do certain human archetypes, such as the Bard, the Pirate, or the Noble. On the more macabre side of things, the skull is also a recurring figure throughout the centuries that meerschaum pipes have been made, despite at first seeming to be a more modern fascination. This particular skull, carved by master Kenan, wears a hooded garb evocative of Turkic mythologies, lending a Middle Eastern flavor to this magnum memento mori.
