John’s Pipe Shop Los Angeles Smooth Canadian Estate Briar Pipe

Out of stock

It’s quite rare that a tobacconist – rather than a pipe company or artisan maker – has its own article on Pipedia. But, as John’s Pipe Shop lasted for almost a century in Los Angeles, USA, it seems only fitting that this one does. Like many tobacconists, John’s had their own store-brand pipes, produced for them by the established makes of the day.

The Pipedia article claims that, among the makes sold under the John’s name, Comoy’s was included. Now, this pipe is long – over seven inches, fact – so if it was a Comoy’s make, it would have to be an Extraordinaire, or perhaps the XXL variant of a shape such as the 309. In any case, it’s a very fine pipe, one that I’m sure will find a loving home with someone that appreciates the English-French classics, but prefers them on the large side.

The condition is excellent. There may be one or two handling marks around the bowl (but they’re very minor if that’s the case) and there’s what appears to be a tiny tooth indentation in the pipe’s vulcanite stem, but that’s it.
