Description

The MBSD Meerschaum Silver is our line of silver mounted meerschaum pipes. Using the same high-grade, fast-coloring Turkish meerschaum found on our Deluxe series, these pipes exclusively feature silver army mounts or spigot mounts.

Thanks to the recommendations of my new hire, I’ve been following developments in the Chinese artisan scene recently, and I’ve become quite enamored with their approach to “sitters,” i.e., self-standing pipe designs. Ping Zhan, for example, makes beautiful hybrid shape sitters, mixing elements of the cherrywood with the acorn or the Dublin. Zhang Guo Hui, a colleague and collaborator of Zhan’s, also makes really elegant sitters that almost look like ornate vases. This Silver line MBSD Meerschaum is something of an homage to that emerging genre of briar pipe by my carver, with further inspiration taken from early Pibe Dan (later Pipe Dan) shapes and the later 20th century pipes of Ed Burak. This pipe also features a reverse calabash system in its chamber, which should make for a nicely cool, dry smoke.
